Konami Group, a Japanese leisure giant, said on Thursday that sales in its gaming and systems division, including casino equipment, rose 29.9% year-on-year in the fiscal first quarter through June 30. The revenue was 10 billion yen ($69.6 million), compared to 7.7 billion yen in the previous quarter.
In guidance released with the results, the group said it expects gaming and systems sales to be N3.90 billion for the full fiscal year.
The gaming sector posted a profit of N1.97 billion in the reporting quarter, up 139.5% from a year earlier. The guidance for the sector's full-year profit was N6.5 billion.
The gaming and systems segment of the Japanese entertainment conglomerate business includes the supply of casino slot machines and casino floor management systems.
In casino gaming, Konami Group operates outside Japan through Konami Australia Pty Ltd and U.S.-based Konami Gaming Inc.
In an announcement Thursday, Konami Group said "Asian markets are also recovering, following key markets in North America and Australia."
It also added that "the highly regarded casino management system synchros continues to expand its installation base in casino facilities," referring to casino operating products produced by the group
Konami Group is also involved in the Japan-focused Pachinko gaming sector and in digital entertainment and sports, including video and mobile games.
Group-wide sales for all activities during the period rose 1.0% year-on-year to 72.63 billion yen in the quarter to June 30.
Konami Group's net profit for the three months ended June 30 was 13.38 billion yen, up 17.0% year-on-year.
In the fiscal year ending March 31, Konami Group's profit rose nearly 70% year-on-year to just over 54.81 billion yen.
