Cambodia has banned its citizens from traveling abroad through its borders to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections, the Khmer Times reported, citing the country's police chief. Regarding inbound travel to Cambodia, a casino jurisdiction popular with people in neighboring countries without legal casino gambling, it was reported that the land borders of Thailand and Poipet (file photo) remained closed at the end of February.
Management at Australia-listed Donaco International Ltd. made the comments in its earnings call. Casino resorts were nonetheless open and looking for customers in other markets, the management noted.
The preah Sihanouk province on Sunday allowed the reopening of the Jin Bay casino and hotel complex in the provincial capital Sihanoukville, although the COVID-19 situation inside Cambodia temporarily shut down the resort at Nagarwold in Phnom Penh, the Khmer Times reported earlier. Travel to and from the province was reportedly still banned.

However, local authorities in Cambodia will have to return the migrant workers and quarantine them if they are Cambodian citizens. Foreigners arrested after entering Cambodia illegally will be repatriated through the same checkpoints, news outlets reported.
Cambodia has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases since last month. Some have been linked to what local authorities call a "community event on February 20."
The Khmer Times reported on the morning of the 3rd that the number of COVID-19 patients nationwide was 1,504, citing local health authorities.
