From a technical standpoint, the flexibility for PS4 and Xbox One owners to try out online together in games like Rocket League Fortnite Items is a bit more than possible, but up to now, Sony has not yet given its consent allowing it to occur. Back in September 2017, Epic enabled cross-platform play involving the two consoles for Fortnite: Save the World, although that has been quickly switched off and chalked nearly an error.
Microsoft has famously been available to cross-play support lately. Rocket League is placed to work across Xbox One, Switch, and PC, as the developer of Minecraft (which Microsoft owns) is also ready to accept cross-play Buy Fortnite Items between Xbox One and PS4. For its part, Sony has not yet seemed eager to allow for cross-play.
