The "Adults Only" rating remains being the kiss of death for virtually any game that hopes to build a dent in mainstream retail.
Stores won't carry games rated Adults Only, nor will Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo provide these with an official release on consoles. The ESRB's directory AO-rated games show the regularity of how the rating is granted because of graphic sexual imagery or MapleStory 2 Mesos nudity, and simply how rarely the rating has depending on violence.
"I believe having less AO content are hard across the industry as it forces individuals and keep pushing the edge for the Mature rating," Geoffrey Zatkin, the founder of CPO of EEDAR, told Polygon. "But since no major retailer will MapleStory 2 Mesos for sale carry an AO product, it truly is very challenging to release any style 'mass market' game owning an AO rating." Movies may get on this limitation by pushing the boundaries while using R rating and next releasing an "unrated" version with the home theater market, even therefore, the gaming industry does not have such recourse.
