What is an on-board computer?

An on-board computer is a small computer mounted on cars and trucks that can register, calculate and display all kinds of things such as distance traveled, average speed, average fuel consumption and real-time fuel consumption. In a truck, the on-board computer is mounted in the cabin and connected to all relevant technical subsystems such as the CANbus, the digital tachograph and temperature sensors, for example. On-board systems are also called “on-board computers”.
